Yoga Stance
Namaste right here and read some more. Did you know? The yoga pants you wear to read are also good for actual yoga. It’s true! A friend told me! If this book nerd workout is a little too strenuous for you, maybe you should try some yoga. We have modified some poses for you, so your workout won’t interfere with your reading. Give these a try!
The Spine Bender Pose
Keep your toes pointed and kick your glutes into gear while you read a few chapters! Just remember, while your spine may be bending when you do this pose, you should never ever bend your book’s spine. That’s bookish sacrilege!
Suggested reading for this pose: by Jennifer Brown, by Elissa Sussman
The Strong Female Character Pose
Salute the badass literary ladies with this warrior once upon a time pose! We suggest using a hardcover when doing this stance, it really makes more of a statement than a paperback.
Suggested reading for this pose: by Julie Murphy, by Rae Carson, by Sophie Jordan
The Plot Twist Pose
Oh, you didn’t see that character’s death coming? Better sit down and do this calming pose so your feels can settle down before you start reading again.
Suggested reading for this pose: by Victoria Aveyard, by Veronica Roth, by Kimberly McCreight, by Lauren Oliver
The Juxtaposition (Position)
You’d think that working out and reading don’t really go together, but YOU WOULD BE WRONG. Did you know that reading actually burns calories? According to this Hardvard study, if you sit and read for 30 minutes, you could burn 30 calories! Boost your caloric killing by doing this book nerd yoga move! (You’ll probably need some strong book arms to pull off this move.)
Suggested reading for this pose: by Michelle Modesto, by Danielle Paige, by Kathy Parks
The Rising Action Pose
See if you can rise to the occasion and conquer this yoga pose! Bonus points if you can do this move on a stack of books without breaking your entire existence.
Suggested reading for this pose: by Kathy MacMillan, by Kathryn Purdie, by C.J. Redwine, by Tom Isbell
Shelf Motivation Pose
This move can be done at home, at the library or at the bookstore. Set your TBR pile on a shelf and make yourself wooooooork for those books!
Suggested reading for this pose: by Kali Wallace, by Michael Grant, by Jeff Garvin
The Extensive Social Media Outreach Pose
This one is for all the publicists, marketers, booksellers, agents, librarians and authors out there.
Suggested reading for this pose: Any advance reader copy.
The Backstory Pose
Doing this pose without a book is soooooooooooo boring, but if you prop up a book, gurl, you can hold that move until the threequel comes out!
Suggested reading for this pose: by Victoria Aveyard, by Lindsay Cummings, by Kiera Cass, The Asylum Novellas by Madeleine Roux
The Footnotes
For expert mode, have an open book in your hands while you engage your core in addition to the TBR pile under your feet!
Suggested reading for this pose: by Dan Wells, by Heidi Heilig
The Point of View Pose
If you do this pose, all of the blood is going to rush to your head and flush your cheeks, so you should probably go ahead and read that steamy novel. (No one will ever know it was your literary OTP that made you blush!)
